It’s the color of amethyst gems, February babies, and Prince.
With so many positive associations, it’s no wonder purple – or Ultraviolet, to be more specific – is taking center stage in fashion and design this year. It can be a bit intimidating to wear, though. Bright purple exudes confidence and boldness; it can easily become overstated.
So, that’s why I compiled this guide of three stylish ways to add a splash of Ultraviolet to your look in 2018!
Idea #1: Ultraviolet Clothing
Work attire & outerwear
Add a bold splash of color to a more neutral outfit with some violet outerwear. I love the sleeveless jacket/vest shown over an earthy ensemble on the left.
For a more coordinated look, build your outfit around the color purple. Softer, lighter tones pair well together in the outfit pictured on the right. Then you can wrap it up in a brighter coat to bring it all together!
Ultraviolet in casual wear
For an everyday look, try using ultraviolet as an accent color to muted grey-purples and textured jeans. Accessories and footwear are an easy way to add this color without investing in an entire new outfit.

Idea #2: Ultraviolet as a Hair Color
Whether it’s all over color or a few highlights to accent your natural look, purple hair is having a moment. Talk to your stylist about different options & commitment levels, from permanent all the way down to one-day hair chalk. One of my current favorites is a shampoo that deposits color while you wash in the shower.
Idea #3: Purple Accessories & Accenting Jewelry Colors
It should come as no surprise that my favorite way to incorporate this trendy color into your look is through jewelry and accessories. From your wedding day to everyday look, you can can add a pair of our sparkly purple druzy earrings to complete the ensemble. Or, if you’re already rocking an ultraviolet outfit, consider neutral-colored jewelry to help make the focal piece “pop.”
