How to Order Custom Jewelry
(( It’s easier than you think! ))
It’s no secret around here that I love to make custom jewelry and accessories. I view it as the ultimate win-win situation for the client (you!) and the designer (me!). The person ordering the custom jewelry gets to have a bespoke piece of handcrafted art to wear that is 100% suited to their desires. Meanwhile, I have the satisfaction of knowing that the jewelry piece(s) I made will be immediately cherished. There’s no better feeling for a creator!
If you’ve ever wondered about how to order custom jewelry and bridal hair accessories from J’Adorn Designs, this post is for you. I’m going to walk through each step of the custom jewelry design process, from inquiry to gift-wrapped delivery!
Step 1: The Inquiry
The first step in the custom jewelry process is as simple as a quick “hello.” Typically you would send me an email via the website contact form to express your interest. Here are a few inquiry examples:
- “I am getting married next July and want to give my bridesmaids a meaningful gift to thank them for all of their wedding planning help. Can you make custom jewelry for each of my attendants according to their style?” (Answer: YES!)
- “My wife and I are celebrating our 25th anniversary this fall and I want to give her a special piece of jewelry that she can wear every day. I’m not sure what I want to give her exactly, but she loves the color blue and turtles. Can you help?” (Answer: YES!)
- “I’ve been searching for the perfect hairpiece to wear with my wedding hairstyle. I haven’t found anything I like in the stores. Can you help me design a hair vine that will work?” (Answer: YES!)
We’ll exchange a few messages to establish a general concept and make sure we want to work together.
Step 2: The Consultation
Next we start talking about specifics! I’ll schedule a meeting with you in person or via video chat, depending on your location & availability. You should bring any photos, color swatches, and ideas along if you have a specific or loosely conceived idea of what you want. If you’re not sure, we’ll have a conversation to figure it out together. I may draw some rough sketches during our meeting and will take copious notes.
Step 3: Sketches & Design Proposal
At this point you’ll pay an initial retainer of $100 to reserve time in my design schedule and to pay for the design options that I’ll create for you. After the design fee retainer is paid and we’ve had our consultation, I will send you three sketches to choose from for your custom jewelry design. These sketches come with two rounds of revisions so we’ll be sure to land on your perfect choice. You’ll receive a final sketch of the piece(s) I’m going to make and a formal proposal with a contract and invoice for your project. Payment in full is due at this time.
Step 4: Sit Back & Relax While I Work
At this point, we’ve finalized the design and you’ve paid for your custom jewelry to be made. I’ll get right to work creating the accessories you’ve commissioned. All you have to do now is wait!
Step 5: Delivery
This is the most exciting part of the custom jewelry design process! Your jewelry will be delivered personally or by post, depending on your location and our agreement. The custom accessories you ordered will be freshly wrapped in a gift box or pouch, then finished with a satin ribbon in the color of your choosing.
Step 6: Rock it
Whether you ordered custom jewelry for yourself or accessories for a loved one, all that’s left to do now is enjoy it!

Jewelry for Maternity Photo Session
Baby Bumps and Baubles
This was an extra special styled shoot for Designer Ali. One of her besties, Mary, celebrated the upcoming arrival of her first child with a “cravings” themed maternity photo session. Ali chose all the jewelry, including our Amethyst Hair Comb, and even styled Mary’s hair herself!
Elegant and Celebratory
Sporting a suit and stunning slate blue gown, Mary and Robby brought the sophistication to this decadently themed affair.
And because elegance was already in the vibe, the jewelry was a breeze to pair!
Ali didn’t want to distract from the main focus of this maternity shoot. The couple and their soon-to-arrive sweet baby boy needed to take the cake. So, delicate touches of sparkle were in order! Our best selling Crystal Spike & Pearl Accent Necklace made the perfect compliment to the gown’s neckline.
Our Aquamarine Silver Vine Bracelet makes a big statement without feeling heavy or clunky.
And trust us… “heavy” and “clunky” are two adjectives no glowing pregnant woman wants anywhere near them! Delicate, breezy and etherial goddess of all natural beauty are acceptable descriptors. So luckily, our botanically-influenced jewelry fits the bill!
Our wire wrapped jewelry is the perfect, crave-able push-present dream gift. Each wire wrapped piece is crafted with one continuous piece of wire. That mean, no gemstone or pearl will ever fall off. And no rogue wire ends will poke your wrists, or scratch baby’s sweet skin.

Hair combs are some of our very favorite pieces to style and share.
Our hair adornments are all heirloom quality, using our standard single-wire wrapping technique so none of the gemstones, crystals or pearls will ever come loose.
Hair combs, especially this amethyst one, can be worn again and again for special occasions and celebrations. Or, just on a Tuesday! They add a pop of interest and sparkle.
Also, Designer Ali must be picking up some hair-styling tricks from the salon where her studio is! Just gorgeous!
And sidenote: if you come see us at one of our pop ups or shows, we always are ready to play dress-up with your hair! We bring pins and elastics to show our customers how easy it is to style our hair adornments.

Here at J’Adorn, we have always prided ourselves on bringing our clients pieces they are going to love and treasure for a LONG time. Custom jewelry is just one of the ways we’re doing that.
Designer Ali loves the creative process, and she knows that sometimes, certain clients have specific wants or needs. And that kind of custom work is where the fun of collaboration and problem solving come into play.
At every pop-up show or market we attend, Ali always has her sketchbook in tow for on-the-spot custom jewelry consultations.
Recently, at the Rehoboth Art League’s Outdoor Fine Art & Craft Show, Ali sketched out THREE different custom orders. And we’re featuring the first one here on the blog today!
Its inspiration was our Coral Branch Earrings from the New Bloom Collection.
During the show, a customer fell in love with our original Coral Branch Earrings and just had to have this look in her jewelry collection.
BUT, due to stretched earlobes and sensitive ears, these showstoppers just weren’t comfortable for her to wear.
Our Solution: Shorten the already-lightweight earrings and use posts instead of lever-back earrings
We kept the branch design, intricate wire work and coral gemstones from the original design. So, the overall aesthetic is the same. But this modified pair will keep their new owner happily ear-ache free whenever she wears them!
And, as we start to transition into autumn, we’re hoping our new custom client loves wearing her “Pumpkin Spice Earrings” with scarves and sweaters, too!
Handcrafted Jewelry at Rehoboth Art League Annual Holiday Fair
Our holiday season starts this weekend at Rehoboth Art League‘s annual fine craft show!
This well established event is in its 34th year. We are SO excited to have been accepted to showcase our handcrafted jewelry. So excited, in fact, that we are debuting our new autumn-inspired collection at the show!
If you’re local to the eastern shore, come by and see us! The weather for this weekend is looking to be mild and sunny. So, if you’re within a few hours’ drive, there’s still time to snag an airbnb and plan a weekend getaway.
